Greater Cambridge City Deal Executive Board. Papers include a verbatim transcript of Milton Road ‘Save our Trees and Verges’ petition debate with the County Council on 19th July. Milton Road RA called upon the City Deal to ‘delay any irreversible destruction of the existing trees and verges until all other methods of resolving the congestion problem have been properly tried and tested’. A number of councillors agreed, but Steve Count said the petition ‘should have called for an action in order to be heard. It’s not up to this [County] Council to supply one’. Ian Manning then read out a wording in which the Council would ‘express its opposition to any plan that would result in the removal of the majority of trees from Milton Road. Further, Council believes the measures contained in the City Deal do not represent efficient or desirable ways of cutting congestion and ask that more options be considered in the public consultation.’ Jocelynne Scutt’s motion ‘That this petition is referred to the City Deal Executive Board and Assembly with the views express in the Chamber’ was carried. Councillor Manning’s motion was lost. Following Cllr Scutt’s motion, the Board will consider it on 1st September.
There will be further debate (we heard the Assembly discuss it last week) on the 1000 extra new homes on rural exception sites. Also CD forward plan and progress report, financial monitoring. And importantly, public questions. Do come and support residents of North Cambridge.
